Cette grille n'audite pas des lots, elle audite la façon dont on les échantillonne. La nuance est décisive : un plan d'échantillonnage indexé au niveau de qualité acceptable ne garantit rien si l'on choisit son niveau de contrôle après coup, ou si l'on ignore les règles de commutation. Ce sont précisément elles qui ferment le dispositif — passer en contrôle renforcé quand la qualité se dégrade, en contrôle réduit quand elle se confirme — et ce sont elles qu'on escamote le plus souvent, parce qu'elles obligent à durcir le contrôle au pire moment. La grille couvre aussi la formation des lots, le skip-lot lorsqu'il est pratiqué, et la traçabilité des décisions d'acceptation.
